Photos

I don't have any good photos of me standing up at 357 pounds. Boooooo. I do have a few photos, but it's hard to see what I look like (for comparison's sake) since I'm sitting down in all of them. I spent most of that time period hiding from cameras. Now I wish I hadn't. I was in such a deep depression, though. How could I possibly think I'd want those pictures some day?

Fortunately, I managed to get a good picture of my face, thanks to a new haircut in late November, 2011.

(Update: I do have pictures! See the photos at the bottom. I'd hidden these from myself and found them last weekend.)

November 2011 - 357 pounds

September 10, 2012 - 321 pounds.

Lord, that's a bad picture. I didn't have any makeup on, and my hair was reacting to the humidity. I'd love to have my hair straightened again. It was so silky, and the layers were fun!

I took the "before" pictures after doing Turbo Jam one night and feeling like a beast. I realized I could DO THIS, and I vowed to grab the camera every time I lost approximately ten pounds. I'd already lost 13 pounds when these "before" pictures were taken.

Old weight: 344 - June 3, 2012
Current weight: 310 - December 19, 2012

I've lost several inches off each thigh, so I can finally stand with my legs together again instead of waddling around.

Those shirts are the exact same shirt, just different colors. As you can see, it's almost laying flat on my stomach. It only sticks out a little bit. I can't get over how big my belly was in the "before" picture! I look like I'm about to give birth.

You can also see the loss in the thigh again (sorta), and if my hair had been pulled back, the loss around my neck and shoulders would be more obvious. I can tell my cheeks are thinner too.

Here are some from Christmas. The "before" picture was taken on Thanksgiving 2011, when I hit my heaviest weight. The "after" picture was taken on Christmas 2012, after I'd lost 45 pounds.

  1. Way to go!! Good Job!! As one who started about 8 months ago over 300 Lbs, I can relate to the beauty of the discovery. Seeing my toes, being able to walk from the parking lot to the store without having to stop to catch my breath, many discoveries are coming your way. Enjoy, and keep it up, once it starts, it just keeps going and going, and going.....

  2. Fantastic! I am starting at 375 and on my way down, though I have only been at it for about a month. It can be a little discouraging to not see results, even when the scale is changing in the right direction. I am happy to see this and know that it will come and what to look forward to.

    1. Thanks! If you're interested, I got it at Catherine's. They have it in blue and burgundy, from 1X to 5X. The white thread you see is actually silver metallic thread. It's pretty. :)

    1. No worries there. :) I never, ever want to feel like this ever again. As soon as I get to my goal weight, I'm staying there. Forever. I still allow myself treats on occasion since I don't want to crave/binge. It's working really well.

What's the point of life without some cake now and then? ;)

  11. Sarah,

You're doing great! The differences are definitely noticeable, and I can tell tell by your words that you're feeling better about yourself (as well as physically feeling better); and, that's the most important difference of all! Keep it up!

  12. Congrats! Slow and steady is the way to go! Are you doing anything special, like weight watchers or some other plan? I love the blog. What a good idea. I never took beginning measurements, but I wish I had. I actually have a dress form that I made by wrapping wet craft tape around myself, so I actually have a life size model of my torso at my "before" weight. Someday I will take a picture of me next to it. -Nat B.

    1. No, nothing special. I track my calories on My Fitness Pal and use a heart rate monitor to track calories burned through exercise.

I should probably be doing pictures as well, except I can't bring myself to do it. I don't want to see pictures of me at my biggest. Perhaps it would help me see the difference in myself. I'm down 28 pounds, but I'm having a somewhat down week where it doesn't really feel like there's any difference.
In case you're interested (my husband doesn't even read it, so I don't expect anyone to) here is my blog in which I'm keeping track of my journey to a healthy weight:
